Week 23 Addicted to News Shows

Are you addicted to news shows? The latest and greatest news from across the globe? Or perhaps, like me, crave the newest crime true life story…you know the ones on Dateline?

I am admitting to you, I have had this addiction but after hearing from Dr. Campbell and learning what was said by a college professor, I am changing my news habits. The college professor was well educated on brain health. The statement that changed my thinking was, “these are stories in the past effecting the right side of our brain and thinking in this way shortens life”.

The Master Key teaches us that these images and words spoken effect our attitude in a negative way. I know it will take me days to rid myself of the images created by these stories. It takes a great deal of effort to stay positive in our negative world. And my goal in this MK class is to be a positive person, uplifting and encouraging and productive. It seems to me that the watching of news shows will destroy what I am trying to accomplish.

It may be the most difficult addiction to recover from, but I can see the value in what is ahead. The relationships to be formed and the peace from the constant nagging. The pure joy over the little things and the love for mankind. There are lots of promising events ahead.

Here are three of the seven laws of the mind. Whatever we think about grows. (the law of growth) We cannot think about 2 things at the same time. If a negative thought enters your mind, think about a fond memory or pleasant thought. (the law of Substitution) These two laws we have been practicing the last several months in our MK class. A third law is of practice, Perfect Practice Prevents Pour Performance. Applying all seven laws are tools, that I am using to overcome the addiction to the news. Hope these laws of the mind help you too.

  1. That’s the way to guard your mind, Joan! You’re conscious mind is the watchman at the gate. A great many of us, I fear, are addicted to news – especially negative. As you said, you have the tools – Laws of the Mind and other support from the MKE – the addiction is already broken! Let’s make our own news in our lives!!
