Week 4 Silence My Friend

In our readings this week we are given an exercise to let go mentally. Haanel states ” We should seek the SILENCE frequently, power comes through repose; it is in the SILENCE that we can be still and when we are still, we can think, and thought is the secret of all attainment.”

When I first began to practice silence, it was very difficult for me. I am an active person, always moving and doing. If there is one more thing to do, I go after it.

In my daily time with the Lord, I would often walk around as I prayed. When sitting it was difficult to be still and pray. What I have learned recently is that I was having a one sided conversation with God. I did not give my higher power the chance to speak to me. In learning to be silent, the reward had been finding peace and a feeling of closeness with God.

It took me time to get to this place and I do not call it easy. I still work at getting the wiggles out before I start. Deep breathing and alternate nostril breathing calms me down. I make it a point as thoughts come in, let them flow thru on their journey to else where. Then I sit up tall in a straight chair, rest my hands on my lap and close my eyes. No moving, just sitting quietly. I was persistent and made it my intention to reach the quiet place.

Now that I have practiced and become better at the sit, I find that very silent place is my friend. A friend I visit often and enjoy. Give it a try, maybe you will find a new friend.

Week 3 Control Our Thoughts

“Harmony in the world within means the ability to control our thoughts, and to determine for ourselves how any experience is to affect us.” A quote from the Master Keys class that I am now taking.

As we continue with our studies, I am keenly aware of the need to control my thoughts. When I am in an emotional state, upset because life has been unkind or unfair, I find it difficult to turn off the thoughts that consume me. I find those thoughts that keep me agitated not only effect me emotionally but physically too.

A couple of years ago right at Christmas time I experienced chest pains. We all know that is not a good thing. For me it was an early warning to get myself pulled back together and pay attention to what my body needs for better health. I was offered a class from the Hospital to better care for myself, and there it was….Meditation and exercise. Meditation, or controlling our thoughts was a large part of the Hospital class.

In the Master Key class we are learning skills to help us understand the importance of needing control to gain harmony of the world within. I plan to pay close attention in class and make the changes that will bring me into a peaceful place. To put into practice the exercises I am learning.

I highly recommend a book that I have read “The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself” by Michael A Singer. In his book Michael takes you on a journey through the chapters, to show you there will be no more confusion, no more lack of empowerment and no more blaming others. You have the ability to find yourself and you have the ability to free yourself. You will know exactly what must be done, if you so choose.

Week 2 Promise

Promise, a pledge to do, bring about or provide.  A promise, a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified.  In starting our class at MKMMA, we promise to do the assignments, to work on being self motivated and self directed.

The promise I have made here is to form new healthy habits of thought and life.  To work diligently to train the subconscious mind.  The mind is the master weaver, both of the interior garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance.  The conscious mind becomes the responsible ruler and guardian of the subconscious mind.  It is this training which can completely reverse conditions in my life.

I am excited to begin the process of change and embrace the power that will be released.  Thought concentrated on a definite purpose becomes power.  I promise to render such action, to be persistent and to achieve my purpose.  I will concentrate my thoughts  for 30 minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become.

As I commit myself to eliminate hatred, envy, jealously, selfishness and cynicism by developing love for all humanity, I know that the negative attitude toward others will be replaced by love.

I always keep my promises.

MKE Week 28 How Do You Talk To Yourself?

What you say to yourself in tough times and in good times is important.  Your self talk has a big effect on your life. Would you like to see some big changes in your overall attitude?  Do you think you are a positive person or do you spend time talking negative about yourself?  Let’s spend a few minutes looking at a simple process to become aware and change some of our thinking.2015-03-13_1341 Your thinking effects everything.

Start by observing yourself.  I recommend the 7 day mental diet as a good place to start to observe your own thinking.  James Allen, in his book, As A Man Thinketh says “The mind is the master weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance”.  Your thoughts have the power to determine how you see yourself, other people, and the world.

From my own personal experience, I can say, for years my thinking was negative about myself and others.  It has taken great effort for me to work on my own thinking.  The 7 day mental diet was a huge challenge to me.  As several of us worked together to help each other, like a team sport, we worked to overcome the negative self talk and thinking.  Allen says “As the physically weak man can make himself strong by careful and patient training, so the man of weak thoughts can make them strong by exercising himself in right thinking”.

I continue to challenge myself to right thinking.  Awareness is the key to making the changes needed for peace of mind and positive thinking.
