Week 24 Each Day We Begin A New Life

Today I begin a new life,

I greet each day with love in my heart,

I persist until I succeed,

I am natures greatest miracle,

My last must be my best,

I am master of my emotions,

I cultivate the habit of laughter.

The wisdom of Og Mandino, teaches how to change your life, applying the secrets revealed in the ancient scrolls. There are 10 scrolls, each containing principles that endure thru out life. Change how you think and how you perceive things, your actions change.

Having worked thru seven of the scrolls, living with each one for a month, my life has changed.

In just 17 weeks I have lost 35 lbs by persisting, by loving myself, by becoming master of my emotions. I have realized I am natures greatest miracle. During this 17 weeks, there were luncheons to attend, Christmas gatherings, family time and weekly dinner group. All were attended, most were challenging as I could not eat anything offered. I had set my intention and focused on the outcome. My friends and partner were very supportive.

All these changes have come thru being a part of a team of people working in harmony to bring about positive support and encouragement.

:

Learning to be Grateful for all things (3 new grateful a day)
Accomplish 2 random acts of kindness
Taking time each day to Meditate
Exercise each day
Keep a mini journal of positive experiences

Love to all

Week 23 Addicted to News Shows

Are you addicted to news shows? The latest and greatest news from across the globe? Or perhaps, like me, crave the newest crime true life story…you know the ones on Dateline?

I am admitting to you, I have had this addiction but after hearing from Dr. Campbell and learning what was said by a college professor, I am changing my news habits. The college professor was well educated on brain health. The statement that changed my thinking was, “these are stories in the past effecting the right side of our brain and thinking in this way shortens life”.

The Master Key teaches us that these images and words spoken effect our attitude in a negative way. I know it will take me days to rid myself of the images created by these stories. It takes a great deal of effort to stay positive in our negative world. And my goal in this MK class is to be a positive person, uplifting and encouraging and productive. It seems to me that the watching of news shows will destroy what I am trying to accomplish.

It may be the most difficult addiction to recover from, but I can see the value in what is ahead. The relationships to be formed and the peace from the constant nagging. The pure joy over the little things and the love for mankind. There are lots of promising events ahead.

Here are three of the seven laws of the mind. Whatever we think about grows. (the law of growth) We cannot think about 2 things at the same time. If a negative thought enters your mind, think about a fond memory or pleasant thought. (the law of Substitution) These two laws we have been practicing the last several months in our MK class. A third law is of practice, Perfect Practice Prevents Pour Performance. Applying all seven laws are tools, that I am using to overcome the addiction to the news. Hope these laws of the mind help you too.

Love, peace and harmony,
Joan

Week 22 Tools of the Master Key

Og Mandino’s book The Greatest Salesman in the World, has been a tool we have been using since the beginning of our Master Key Class. Below are reminders of how far we have come in the book in 5 scrolls.
We pluck grapes of Wisdom from the pages of the book.

The first from these pages of wisdom that I obey …I will form good habits and become their slave.
Second …I greet each day with love in my heart.
Third…I persist until I succeed
Fourth…I am natures greatest miracle
Fifth…My last must be my best…daily

Now that we are on scroll 6 we are learning to master our emotions And how will I master these emotions so that each day will be productive? Unless my mood is right the day will be a failure. Trees and plants depend on the weather to flourish but I make my own weather, I transport it with me. If I bring rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism to my friends they will react with rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism. If I bring joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter to my friends they will react with joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter. I will master my emotions so that every day is a happy day.

This is my plan of action, to continue to be instructed from these pages on how to use the tools we are given. I become master of myself by using these tools.

As I progress thru the Master Key course, I am reminded of how far I have come. How much happiness I see around me. Working too on being a good observer of all that is part of my life. Kindnesses and accomplishments. Working on being the non-judgmental observer. (making improvements each day) Letting go of the of the difficult situations that I want to control and embracing the outcome that will come soon enough. A new freedom for me to let it go.
Much Love to you,
Joan

Week 21 A Positive Influence

This week has been exciting. I met a very interesting man and in the course of about 5 minutes time we had a lovely chat.
The first thing he said to me was “I am 93 years old”. Seemed like a strange introduction, but then he went on to tell me about his lovely wife and that they had been married for 67 years. She was with him but waiting in the lobby.

We were back in the pain management section of the office during this conversation. He then told me he had a girls name “Jean”, but spelled Gean. Gean was in this office because his Doctor told him he was too old to do surgery on his knee. He was most interested in finding out about Stem Cell treatment, as this was his intention to have this work done on his knee.

As we chatted he began to unfold his story of great loss. Their house had just burned to the ground. Thankfully, they were saved, but all their belongings were gone. He then explained about this new house his son had just finished building nearby and how this house is now where they live. Their son also bought two special chairs that tilt forward to assist in getting out of the chair, One for each of them, with a small table to put between them. Gean was proud of the new house where they now live and thankful for his Son’s provision.

Gean had been a Dallas Fireman for over 30 years before he retired 40 years ago. After the fire destroyed their house the firemen in the fire house collected money to help with expenses. In this short conversation he was very upbeat and positive talking more about the good in his life, the other events were not important to him.

When I walked out of the doctor’s office 40 minutes later I was still thinking about Gean. He was a breath of fresh air to talk to and I admired his positive spirit. Thru the lessons with the Master Key we are coming to understand being a positive person is to lead a productive life. When I grow to 93 years, I want to have that “happy knack” for the positive events in my life.
Much Love to you all,
Joan

Week 20 Persistence

Persistence is when you try and try to learn a new skill, never giving up.

Persistence is an effect that continues even after the cause has been removed or something that sticks around for a long time.

Synonyms: continuity, doggedness, perseverance, perseveration, persistency, pertinacity, tenaciousness, tenacity. Similar words: persistent, subsistence, consistency, existence, persist, consistent, insistently, consistently.

One of my personal pivotal needs is true health. For years now I have worked at controlling my weight and eating healthy foods. Several times in the past I have used a diet program, only to find I would return to the original weight after getting finished with the program. These were not programs that trained new skills.

Ten weeks ago, back in December, just before Christmas, I became angry at myself for not taking the proper action to achieve my new goals. I marched myself down to a new program that is a life style change. I am learning new skills to change the way I eat and when I consume calories. I am on a timed eating plan, and removing all sugar from my diet. I am down 23 pounds and feel so good. My joints do not hurt when I get up and sit down.

A complete surprise to me was when I noticed my stiffness was gone. (for those of you reading this that are of the younger set….some of these things come on as one ages) I am very active with Line Dancing and Yoga, I felt that I was doing well in that area of joint health, but this is better than before.

This new plan is so different from what I was doing in the past it has taken lots of persistent, consistent action to learn the new skills. No deviations are allowed to stay on track each week. It has taken everything I am learning in the MK to keep moving forward. Never giving up and the success is evident. Since this is a lifetime journey, it continues, and I see so much good from the process.

I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, healthy and happy. Joan
